A Boy for Charlotte

The official announcement has been handed down. Yesterday at the Princess Grace Hospital Charlotte Casiraghi was delivered of a healthy baby boy, named Raphael. Both parents are said to be doing fine and there was even a joke worked in about the "grandmas doing well", a reference to HRH Princess Caroline being a grandmother twice over now. Congratulations to the new parents on their little bundle of joy and we hope Raphael will be revealed to the world soon.

Happy Birthday Andrea!

It was on this day in 1984 that Andrea Albert Pierre Casiraghi was born to Stefano Casiraghi and HSH Princess Caroline of Monaco. Doesn't seem that long ago does it? Yesterday's bundle of joy is today's proud papa. How time flies...

Birthday of the First Albert

It was on this day in 1848 that HSH Prince Albert I of Monaco was born to TSH Prince Charles III and Princess Antoinette. He would go on to fame as the "Sailor Prince", a pioneer in the science of oceanography and the sovereign who gave Monaco her first constitution.

Happy Birthday Andrea!

It was on this day in 1984 that Andrea Albert Pierre Casiraghi was born to HSH Princess Caroline of Monaco and Stefano Casiraghi. We have watched Andrea go from cute little toddler to teenage hunk who made the girls swoon to a mature, educated businessman well informed on world affairs. And, until such time as the Sovereign Prince and Princess Charlene give us some princely heirs he is second-in-line to the Monegasque throne. Happy Birthday Andrea!

Happy Birthday Pauline!

Can you believe it?! Today Pauline Grace Maguy Ducruet, daughter of HSH Princess Stephanie of Monaco, celebrates her 18th birthday. It seems like only yesterday that Stephanie was the teenager on all the magazine covers, now her daughter is old enough to vote. Gosh I feel old...but anyway, Happy Birthday Pauline!

A Birthday and St Patrick’s Day Salute

On Wednesday HSH Prince Albert II celebrated his 54th birthday (hurrah!) and he spent the day doing what he does best -attending an environmentalist conference. Specifically it was the Territorial Governance of Water in the Mediterranean at the 6th Annual World Water Forum. The conference was held in collaboration with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Blue Plan, Veolia Environment, the International Office for Water and Unitar and the Water Think Tank Méditerranée. Our Albie was in his element (so to speak).

Tomorrow the Sovereign Prince will be at the Chapelle de la Visitation for a special Irish harp concert, held under the auspices of the Princess Grace Irish Library, to mark St Patrick’s Day and pay tribute to the Irish heritage of the Prince, thanks to his mother, the iconic Irish-American Princess Grace. The Princely Palace will also be lit up in green lights for the occasion and the Ambassador of the Irish Republic to France and Monaco will be among the special guests for the events.

Princess Grace's Birthday

It was on this day in 1929 that Grace Patricia Kelly was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John Brendan Kelly and Margaret Katherine Majer, the third of four children. She would be 82-years-old today, were it not for the tragic accident that cut her life all too short. It is hard to imagine what the world, and Monaco in particular, would have been like without her -and I wouldn't want to try. She was such a remarkable woman, truly one of a kind, and an ideal Princess consort. Her life was the original, true, royal fairytale. It was not always easy or pleasant and she certainly had her share of problems to deal with but, like all the best royal consorts, she took it all in stride and never let it show. She was a faithful and supportive wife and a devoting, loving and "hands-on" mother. Princess Grace was the complete package; intelligent, disciplined, compassionate, beautiful, stylish, dignified, caring and, of course, graceful. Few would have guessed it at the begining. As a child she was considered, believe it or not, to be something of an "ugly duckling". She was frail and often sick in a family that, with a father who was an Olympian, prized athletic ability, strength and stamina. However, she set out on her own, pursued her acting career, started out as a model, worked her way up through the ranks and finally reached the top; not just a successful actress, but the leading lady in many big studio movies and an Oscar winner. After her whirlwind courtship and marriage she settled into the "role" of Princess of Monaco and I think everyone would agree it was a part she was born to play. I am sure, Princess Grace is looking down on Monaco now, keeping an eye on her children (and her grandchildren) and I'm sure she would be perfectly delighted that her beloved 'Albie' has finally settled down to married life. There will never be another like her and she is still greatly missed, but a Hollywood icon and a future Princess of Monaco got her first look at the world 82 years ago today.

Happy Birthday Charlotte!

Yes, it was on this day in 1986 that HSH Princess Caroline of Monaco and Stefano Casiraghi welcomed their lovely daughter Charlotte into the world at the Princess Grace Hospital in Monte Carlo. What has she been up to lately? One of the recent events she graced with her presence was the Islamic Fashion Festival in London, called "Discover the Beauty of Modesty" (Monaco hosted a similar event here a while back). Mad for Monaco wishes our Charlie a very happy 25th birthday and many, many more to come.

Happy Birthday Alexandra!

It was on this day in 1999 that HRH Princess Alexandra of Hanover was born to Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Princess Caroline of Monaco in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria. Amongst her ancestors are King George III and Queen Victoria of Great Britain, King Christian IX of Denmark and German Kaiser Wilhelm II. She has been adored from day one and already in her life so far she has been a very impressive princess. She is currently in school in Monaco, living with her mother. Mad for Monaco wishes Princess Alexandra a very happy 12th birthday with many, many more to come!

Happy Birthday Camille!

It was on this day in 1998 that Camille Marie Kelly Gottlieb was born to HSH Princess Stephanie of Monaco at the Princess Grace Hospital in Monte Carlo. She officially enters her teenage years today as she turns 13-years-old. Princess Stephanie said long ago that she wanted her children kept out of the public glare and to have as normal and private a life as possible and she seems to have done an excellent job at that. Daniel, Pauline and Camille may not be part of the fashion show & charity gala jet-set like their Casiraghi cousins but they have also been spared the constant media scrutiny of the Casiraghi Trio and seem like quite a happy and well adjusted little family. Camille did make a very nice appearance at the recent wedding of her uncle Albert and in the picture shown I see more than a trace of her mother and grandfather Rainier in her face. A lovely girl and we wish her a very happy birthday with many, many more to come. I think Princess Stephanie has been a very good mother and seeing Camille at 13 is living proof of that. A fine girl. Congratulations and happy birthday!

Birthday of Prince Louis II

It was on this day in 1870 that the future Prince Louis II was born to (then) Hereditary Prince Albert of Monaco (later Albert I) and Princess Mary Victoria, daughter of the 11th Duke of Hamilton. As we know, Louis became a career officer in the French army, distinguished himself in battle in World War I, reigned as Sovereign Prince of Monaco from 1922 to 1949 when he was succeeded by his grandson Rainier III.

Happy Birthday Andrea!

It was 27 years ago today that Andrea Albert Pierre Casiraghi was born at the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco to HSH Princess Caroline of Monaco and Stefano Casiraghi. He is currently second in line to the Monegasque throne (though with the upcoming marriage of his uncle that could be changing). Mad for Monaco wishes Andrea a very happy birthday!

Birthday of Prince Rainier

It was on this day in 1923 that HSH Prince Rainier III of Monaco was born. In the picture above little Rainier is being held by his father Prince Pierre de Polignac, next to his mother Princess Charlotte while big sister Princess Antoinette is held by proud grandpapa Prince Louis II. Were he with us today Prince Rainier would be 88 years old. Not many of his generation are left but the Monegasque are justly proud of the very long history of their monarchy, how they have endured and survived as a sovereign state over the centuries and I'm sure Rainier III would be looking down with pride on the upcoming marriage of his son, hopeful that the Grimaldi-Polignac line will continue into the future. Rainier III was not able to have a very close relationship with his own father (though he tried to make up for lost time as best he could after coming to the throne) and he was determined that his children would not have to endure the troubles that he and his sister did and in that Rainier III was certainly successful. May he rest in peace, one of the greatest sovereigns Monaco has ever had.
